National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

This month marks the concentrated awareness of Breast Cancer. Unfortunately, according to the American Cancer Society, about 182,460 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer in 2008. About 40,480 women will die from the disease this year. Right now there are about two and a half million breast cancer survivors in the United States (cancer.org).

These are devastating numbers. My heart sinks for those who have lost someone to this, and it melts for people who currently are dealing with it or have relatives suffering from it.

I personally have had family members pass away from cancer. And, from what I recall, it wasn't a trip down the yellow brick road.

The question ponder my mind, what can we do for those who are currently undergoing Breast Cancer treatment? Here's my attempt to answer such a question.

1) Pray for them. I believe God hears our prayers and answers them, according to His will. Sometimes, God wants them home. Then, there are times when they are still needed here on earth. The fact that death is a part of life is a hard pill to swallow. Hebrews 9:27 says, Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment (NIV, from biblegateway.com) It's tough. But a reality. The good news is, if it's a friend or neighbor you know, encourage them in the Lord. Witness to them. Tell them of the goodness of God and how he can save and deliver them- an heal them. Our God is a healer. The two and a half million breast cancer survivors can all testify of God's healing.

2) Encourage them to be strong. It's easy to give up. Hearing such devastating news from their physician may have brought them to their lowest point in life, causing severe depression. Be a ray of sunshine in there life, and encourage them to hold on to their Faith. They can make it!

3) Support any Breast Cancer support group or organization. Run in a marathon. Donate money. Scientist are working vigorously at trying to find a cure for Breast Cancer. I believe with all of my heart that someday they will find a cure. I believe it is possible. Do you? We live in a world where many are losing hope- giving up. Let's assure them that they don't have to give up. Life is precious. Life is a blessing. When we submit our lives to God and allow Him to be Lord in our lives, we also allow Him to do what appears to be the impossible. God is the giver of life- and in Him alone do we have life and have it more abundantly.

Thus I pray,

Lord, my heart cries for the people in pain, suffering from Breast Cancer. But, I know that you are a God that heals- in every aspect that we need healing. I ask Lord that you would touch the women all over the world who are dealing with Breast Cancer. Move miraculously on their behalf. Show yourself to them. Give them a big hug as they cry from mental anguish over this issue. Wrap your loving arms around them. Shield them from the traps of the enemy who want them to give up. By the Power of your Holy Spirit, I ask that you motivate them to hold on and not give up- to walk and not grow weary. Life is such a journey at times. But God you are our peace, and I ask that you give these women the peace that surpasses all understanding. They need you Father. Thank you Lord for being here for us. Thank you for your grace and mercy and for the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. This we ask, in Jesus' holy name. Amen.

Please pray this prayer and agree with me. Matthew 18:20 "For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them."

Blessings,
Kennisha
